The Failed Impeachment of Donald J Trump

The Impeachment Trial of Donald Trump that took place last week is symptomatic of a failing country and its political class.

Donald J Trump is a racist, narcissistic individual without compassion nor a basic understanding knowing right from wrong.  So why do I think his impeachment was wrong?  When Trump took office, the Democratic party was in tatters.  It thought that Hillary Clinton would be the next President of the United States and it was her turn in the cycle of Republican and Democratic sharing the presidency.  A lot of people, even those on the democratic side thought she wasn’t the right person to be the candidate but were overruled by the party machinery and so went forward as the nominated candidate against Trump.

Trump, meanwhile, was scaring the living daylights out of the republican party as he was not a politician and wasn’t within their political world much like the democrats, you had to be in it to win it!  However, their shock was palpable when Trump won the nomination for the republican candidate.  Why did Trump win?  He won because democrats didn’t take him seriously nor the absolute rage of many people in America that were hurting not only because of republican policies but also because of democratic policies that became a lesser evil than those proposed by the republicans, you could say “they are two cheeks on the same arse” and that is being kind!

The anarchy brought to Capitol Hill on 6th January 2020 was brought about by years of hate of governments that have systematically undermined the people of America, that it was a far-right led assault on the seat of government does not bode well for the republican party.  Many US politicians have called this a coup or insurrection, none of these terms apply to what happened, yes violence took place, but the government was never in any risk of being toppled.

One thing is certain you’d hope that the American news agencies and government would recognise a coup as they’ve been involved in so many over the decades, either actively or supportive of their political stooges. The reason why the politicians are calling it a coup is clearly because they’ve been rattled.  For many decades they think they can say or do anything without suffering the consequences of their actions or inactions.  They now know they can’t get away with it any longer.  But they had to have Trump impeached because it was what they wanted all along from the moment he took office.  They could not accept that a non-politician was president and that the privileged access the mainstream media took for granted was being challenged.

Their coup failed.  Their impeachment failed and it always looked it was going to fail and the desperate attempts by House Managers and the Democratic party to override the rules of the House in order to get their man is a stain on the democratic process they profess to hold dear.

I don’t like Donald Trump, he is a racist bigot, who had undermined everything that is good in the USA but no more than any other president.  In recent memory President Raegan, Bush, GW Bush, Clinton & Obama have all done terrible things to innocent people.  Yes, they may have been more intelligent and toed the line to show a semblance of law, order and the American way but they’ve all killed innocent people, undermined the very fabric of the American society, presided over the failure of the American dream whilst taking away healthcare from millions of poor Americans as they’ve increased the military budget to such an extent that it is becoming embarrassing to ordinary Americans.  How can you justify a defence budget of $732 Billion whilst millions of Americans are on food stamps and many are homeless and destitute?

The real reason that Trump was on trial is that they looked at themselves and knew the game was up and had to find a way to distract citizens from seeing their failings as legislators. It did not work, and we will look forward to seeing if they can change or will they just want things to be the way they were before the Covid crisis?  I am hopeful that the American people won’t fall for this again, but I am also aware that the legislators are on too much of a good thing to let go.
